Wedding day goes well
and is enjoyed to the
fullest by you and
all of your guests.

Hire professionals who specialize in
Weddings and let them help you.
Part of the fee you are paying them,
is for their advise and ideas, so
consider what they suggest.
They have been involved in more
Weddings then you have,
so take advantage of their experience.

Only hire someone that you like and trust. Go with your feelings
after meeting with them. Be sure that you are meeting with
the professional who will be working at your Wedding. If you
meet with a company that will be taking care of sending someone
else to work at your Wedding, be sure that you meet with that
person prior to the day, just to confirm with them what you expect
from them, and to be sure they are a good match for you.

DO NOT ask friends or family to work at your Wedding, taking care
of shooting photos, video, being your DJ, or coordinator.

It is not a good idea to hire friends for several reasons, but most
importantly of all, is that they will need to work instead of being
able to enjoy your Wedding as your guest.
If they don’t work hard, and instead just relax and enjoy the day,
(which is probably what you want them to do anyway) you will be very
disappointed with the quality of their services at the end of your
special day. Many friendships are lost after bad feelings about
a day which should be your happiest ever, and you can't do it again.

Wedding professionals make it look easy, but they are working very
hard to make the day run smoothly and for you and your guests, and
for you to have many priceless memories and keepsakes afterwards.

and compare wedding services and ideas without

needed information and services, inspirations,
wedding planning memories as well as awesome savings.
In order to take advantage of all the benefits bridal
shows have to offer, it is best to be prepared.

Not all Bridal Shows are created equal. Find a show
that best fits your style and event. By paying
attention to the location where the bridal show is
being held, this can help you determine a bridal show
that will best fit your style. Talk with other brides
about shows they have attended or check internet
reviews for upcoming shows.

Shopping and comparing wedding services and ideas can

swatch to show potential wedding vendors. If not, pay
attention to displays and designs to get an idea of the
hottest new color combinations, colors that work well
together as well as what you envision would work best for
your event.

Take advantage of show discounts and give-aways. Most bridal
shows will offer a number of bridal shows discounts as well
as door prizes that are given away during and after the
fashion show. Complete wedding packages, honeymoons,
photobooths and dj services are just some of the many door
prizes available to brides. Exhibitors will generally offer
a show discount at their booths which can result in huge
savings.

Cake and food samples offered at bridal shows are a great way
to compare cuisine but be sure to eat a light meal before the
bridal show. The samplings probably won’t be enough to get you
through the day.

Bridal show fashion shows feature the latest in bridal gowns
and attendants wear. Although it is great to shop for gowns
in magazines or on the internet, nothing will give you a
preview than what your gown and your attendants’ attire will
look like than to see the gowns in person on the catwalk.
Bridal gown shops are generally on hand to answer your
fashion questions.

With all the many details that are involved in planning a

As a Bride,
you should take
advantage of
Bridal shows,
and attend at
least a couple
of them, with your
husband-to-be,
Mom or some of
your Bridal party.

The shows can be a lot of fun as well as informative.
You can talk to a variety of different Wedding services,
get some new ideas, and have some of your questions
answered all in one day, at one location, within just
a few hours.

However, not all Bridal shows are created equal!

It is a good idea to contact the facility in which the show
is being held, or the producers, prior to the show, to get
a list of the vendors participating in the show.
The exhibitors should be listed on the show producers website,
along with directions, fashion show times and other information
to help you plan the day before arriving.

There is usually a charge to attend a Bridal show, but if you
pre-register for a Bridal show, most times you will receive a
discount on the entry fee, and sometimes pre-printed mailing
labels for you to use at the show.

When you attend a Bridal show, to make your life much easier,
and for a more enjoyable experience, always remember to
BRING MAILING LABELS,
with your name and mailing address on them.

If you have time you can make labels, including your name,
mailing address, e-mail address, wedding date and grooms name.
Almost every booth will have something to fill out with your
information for some type of give-away.

I only know of one Bridal show producer who gives these labels
to Brides if you register in advance, and it is such a great idea.
It really makes registering for give-aways so much easier for both
the Brides filling out the cards, and the vendors trying to read
their writing!

You want to be able to view a few different photographers Bridal
books, watch videos of other Weddings ceremonies and receptions,
taste samples of cake, see DJ’s in action, get ideas for your
flowers, and see a lot of products and services that you hadn’t
even thought of!

A lot of vendors offer discounts, or free merchandise when you book
them from a Bridal show. There is usually a fashion show to enjoy.
Although you might not find your gown or bridesmaids dresses from
the show, it’s fun to watch and get ideas of what styles you may
want to consider. Prizes are almost always given out before and
after the fashion show, and usually you need to be present to win.
Sometimes these are some great prizes given out by the vendors
participating in the show.

The larger Bridal shows can be a bit overwhelming for newly engaged
Brides.

Actually, the smaller shows are better for crossing things off your
“To Do” list, because it is easier talking to the vendors when it’s not
so busy. That's why it is a good idea to attend both types of shows.

You should mark the business cards of the people you want to contact
later for a consultation. Even though you think you will remember
them, sometimes it’s hard to remember everyone that you talked to
after the show.

Weddings on New Years Eve

Many couples want to begin the new year as man and wife.

We celebrate you!

Here is some history of the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball,
for un-Wedding and New Year related reading!

Revelers began celebrating New Year's Eve in Times Square as
early as 1904, but it was in 1907 that the New Year's Eve Ball
made its maiden descent from the flagpole atop One Times Square.

The first New Year's Eve Ball, made of iron and wood and adorned
with one hundred 25-watt light bulbs, was 5 feet in diameter and
weighed 700 pounds. It was built by a young immigrant metalworker
named Jacob Starr, and for most of the twentieth century the
company he founded, sign maker Artkraft Strauss, was responsible
for lowering the ball.

As part of the 1907-1908 festivities, waiters in the fabled
"lobster palaces" and other deluxe eateries in hotels surrounding
Times Square were supplied with battery-powered top hats emblazoned
with the numbers "1908" fashioned of tiny light bulbs. At the stroke
of midnight, they all "flipped their lids" and the year on their
foreheads lit up in conjunction with the numbers "1908" on the
parapet of the Times Tower lighting up to signal the arrival of the
new year.

The Ball has been lowered every year since 1907, with the exceptions
of 1942 and 1943, when the ceremony was suspended due to the wartime
"dimout" of lights in New York City. Nevertheless, the crowds still
gathered in Times Square in those years and greeted the New Year with
a minute of silence followed by the ringing of chimes from sound trucks
parked at the base of the tower - a harkening-back to the earlier
celebrations at Trinity Church, where crowds would gather to "ring out
the old, ring in the new."

In 1920, a 400 pound ball made entirely of wrought iron replaced the
original. In 1955, the iron ball was replaced with an aluminum ball
weighing a mere 200 pounds. This aluminum Ball remained unchanged
until the 1980s, when red light bulbs and the addition of a
green stem converted the Ball into an apple for the "I Love New York"
marketing campaign from 1981 until 1988. After seven years, the
traditional glowing white Ball with white light bulbs and without
the green stem returned to brightly light the sky above Times Square.
In 1995, the Ball was upgraded with aluminum skin, rhinestones,
strobes, and computer controls, but the aluminum ball was lowered
for the last time in 1998.

For Times Square 2000, the millennium celebration at the Crossroads of
the World, the New Year's Eve Ball was completely redesigned by
Waterford Crystal. The new crystal Ball combined the latest in
technology with the most traditional of materials, reminding us of our
past as we gazed into the future and the beginning of a new millennium.

You may be interested
in the origins of some
popular traditions
included in observing
your marriage.

Bridal gowns, for example, are white because the Greeks
believed white embodied purity, innocence and joyfulness.
Wedding veils have always symbolized modesty, privacy,
youth and maiden hood. That way of thinking still has a
foothold; bridal etiquette authorities today advise
second-time brides to skip the veil and wear a less
traditional headpiece instead.

Most are familiar with the poem about bridal attire:
“Something old, something new, something borrowed,
something blue and a lucky sixpence in your shoe.”
What’s not generally known is that if a bride borrows
an item from a happily married woman, the giver’s
happiness is said to be passed on to the bride.
Something blue symbolizes constancy in a relationship.

The bridal garter originates from at least two cultures.
In ancient times, it represented the virginal girdle;
the groom’s removal of the garter symbolized her
relinquishment of that status. The garter can also be
traced to the Old English custom of flinging the stocking.
Wedding guests would sneak into the bridal chamber,
pick up the newlywed’s discarded stockings and throw
them at the couple. Whoever flung a stocking that hung on
the bride or groom’s nose would be the next to marry.

Wedding bands, symbolizing eternal love by their lack of a
beginning or end, grew out of an ancient tribal custom of
using circlets of grass to decorate a bride’s wrists and
ankles. The Romans and Egyptians, with their love of
precious metals and stones, initiated the practice of using
silver and gold. Rings are worn yet today on the third finger
of the left hand because ancient cultures believed that
finger had a vein running straight to the heart.

The “throwing of the rice” at fleeing newlyweds is a traditional
way of wishing them many children.

• When making decisions about where to go, who to see, and how to spend the day, remember to make decisions together that are life-giving to your marriage.

Make Thanksgiving Less Chaotic and More Meaningful

If Thanksgiving Day for the two of you doesn't match the ideal
and is a day of stress and turmoil in your marriage, check out
some of these ideas for making the holiday more meaningful and
less chaotic.
• Consider having your own Thanksgiving Day dinner alone.
Then join your families later for dessert.
• If you really don't want to choose between which family
to spend the holiday with, then get away together. You don't have
to go far away. There are probably some great resorts near your
home that have holiday packages that include a romantic place to
stay and Thanksgiving dinner.
• You can also get away as a family if you have children. We had
a great Thanksgiving dinner with our four kids at Cinderella's
Castle in Disney World. Years later, the kids still talk about
the wonderful stress free time we had as a family that holiday.
• If you are in an interfaith marriage, rather than saying grace
at dinner, you could have a moment of silence before eating, or
have everyone at the table share something they are thankful for.
• Sometime during the day, take a nap or a break from the
festivities.
• When the two of you are alone together, share the blessings you
each feel in your marriage.
• If the two of you are hosting a Thanksgiving Day dinner, remember
to try and keep balance in your lives.
• Don't strive for perfection in either the way your home looks,
the way your kids behave, or the way the meal turns out.
• Decide together on who will do what when it comes to the
straightening the house, planning, preparation, cooking, and clean up
responsibilities.
• Look for ways to go beyond the inner circle of yourselves and y
our families by taking canned foods to church or a local food bank,
or helping to distribute hot meals on Thanksgiving Day.
• Tell a story from your past Thanksgiving celebrations to each other.

Weddings Become Marriages

Getting Married
should be about
the Marriage
and not about
the Wedding.

So many Brides get caught up in planning
a perfect Wedding, they don’t think about
the “Ever After”.

I am a firm believer in Marriage and living
“Happily Ever After”.

That doesn’t mean that everything in your life
after your Wedding will always be perfect, but
if your expectations aren’t unrealistic you can
have a very happy life together.

When you go through the good times, it is so
wonderful to have someone to share and enjoy
those times with, and when times are tough,
you have someone by your side to help you,
and you can work through them together.

The secret is, not having any secrets from
each other.

That doesn’t mean that you need to report to each
other on every little detail of your life, but
that you always share your feelings and opinions
with each other.

You can agree to disagree, but at least you are
talking and sharing.

Pick your battles carefully, everything is not worth
fighting about.

Starting with the day you say “I Do” to each other,
work together as a unit and you can accomplish so
much more in life.

Don’t try to change each other, just accept each
others faults and focus on your strengths.

Work to bring out the best in your partner, and
allow them to bring out the best in you as well.

Always make time for each other, and remember why
you fell in love, and you should stay in love for
the rest of your lives.

Halloween Weddings

For the groom
and best man,
a tuxedo can
be complemented
with the top hat,
cape and cane of
a Victorian
gentleman.

A red lining to
the cape brings
out the Halloween
associations with
Vampires, without
making the connection too obvious.

For the bride and bridesmaids,
full elegant and even hooped gowns, with high or
wing collars, are suggested by this theme, although
any long and elegant style would be compatible.

The orange, black, red and yellow colors associated
with Halloween are derived mainly from the pumpkin
and the underworld theme, but are also colors
associated with the Fall as the leaves change color.
These warm colors used in the decorations for a
Halloween wedding acknowledges both the festival
and the season.
Seasonal flowers to carry through this color theme
include red, orange and yellow roses and tiger and
calla lilies.

Dark colored table cloths instead of white are suggested,
either black or red. The autumn theme could be developed
with the tables sprinkled with gold, orange and yellow
confetti, rose petals or artificial leaves.

The use of candles as the featured lighting during a
Halloween wedding reception also reflects the seasonal
drawing in of the nights. Chunky candles in autumn colors
are suggested.

A few plain gourds as candle holders bring out the warm
colors, and make a reference to the Halloween carved pumpkin
jack-o-lantern, without the ghoulish grin.

Halloween Wedding Ideas

ghoulish side of the
Halloween theme at
their wedding.
However, a wedding
at Halloween is an
opportunity to create
a very special ambiance
reflecting the season
and some of the elegant
aspects of the Halloween
tradition.

Halloween has adopted the Victorian Count Dracula story,
which has inspired a formality in some Halloween party
costumes. The Count is usually portrayed in a tuxedo,
and ladies following this Vampire theme often wear long
gowns with high collars or wings. The popular Adams Family
television series built up this aspect of the Halloween
tradition, and developed a style close to the Gothic theme
popular during Victorian times. The Gothic style also has
an appeal through the music and lifestyle tastes of many
modern couples. A Halloween wedding can take advantage of
the formality and elegance of the Victorian era, while
having a modern lifestyle appeal.

The Victorian era also made use of dark colors, such as
reds and burgundies and dark stained woods, and could
influence the choice of venue for a Halloween wedding.
Victorian furnishings, chandeliers and wood paneling
would certainly add to the Halloween atmosphere.

Cherubs and angels were popular decor items during the
Victorian Gothic era, and could be featured as table
decoration, candle holders and for holding place names.
Another slightly bolder and macabre play on the Halloween
theme would be to make named tombstones as place name
holders.

Your Bridal Shower

The bridal shower is a traditional
celebration which allows friends
and family to show their affection
and “shower” the couple with gifts.
The shower occurs from two months
to two weeks before the wedding and
can be anything from an informal
luncheon at the office to a buffet
dinner in an elegant restaurant.

Bridal showers or couples showers are usually given
by members of the wedding party, cousins, or friends
of the families. Two or three friends can act as
co-hostesses or hosts. No one should be invited to the
shower who has not been invited to the wedding or who
does not know the couple. One of the bride’s
responsibilities as far as her shower goes is to provide
the hostess with a guest list and to make sure that she
hasn’t created a financial burden on anyone by inviting
her to more than one or two showers. She should also send
a written note of thanks to her guests for any presents
received, as well as to the hostess(es) for their
hospitality.

Shower themes can be fun and useful. Unique shower ideas
are: A “round the clock” shower where guests are assigned
an hour of day on their invitations and bring the
appropriate gifts (for example, a “7:00 a.m. guest” might
bring a toaster). A home repair shower for the bride and
groom. A lingerie shower. A recipe shower where each guest
receives a recipe card and fills in a favorite dish.
A “wishing well” shower, where in addition to the gift, the
guest brings a tiny present (a wooden spoon, a kitchen
sponge etc.). The hostess makes a cardboard replica of a well,
and the gifts, wrapped and tied with ribbons, are tossed in.
There are no cards attached, though sometimes the guests write
a poem, and attach it to their gifts. The bride pulls out the
gifts with the ribbons and reads the poems aloud.

Your Wedding Photographs

Don’t err on the side
of politeness… or economy… when
friends or relatives volunteer
to take your wedding photographs.

Get a professional, one who thoroughly
understands lighting techniques and who
is skilled at creatively capturing the
tender, joyous and humorous moments of
your wedding and reception on film.

Interview photographers early, at least six to twelve
months in advance. Visit their studios, review their
portfolios, and talk about the pictures you envision
of your wedding. Be sure to inquire about special
effect photography and decide if you want it included
in your wedding portfolio.

Determine your photography budget clearly at this meeting.
Don’t forget to allow for additional prints you might want
to give as gifts later. Agree on a firm figure for both
the deposit and the final payments; pay both promptly.

Discuss with your photographer the type of wedding you’re
planning. Include the location and time of both the ceremony
and reception. Be sure the photographer reviews considerations
regarding the lighting. Some churches do not allow extraneous
lighting during the ceremony.

You will come up against one photographic dilemma. When should
the formal portraits be taken? After the ceremony is the
traditional time, but many photographers feel that there is not
enough time between ceremony and reception to allow for all group
pictures plus the beautiful, romantic shots which you will surely
wish to have. Besides, this is the time you want to spend with
your guests. Taking all formal groupings before the ceremony
seems to be a better choice when a large, formal wedding party is
involved. This allows time after the ceremony for more relaxed
photos with family and friends in attendance. Discuss this question
thoroughly with your fiancé and your photographer to understand
everyone’s preferences. Considering your wedding day schedule and
the size of the wedding party, the three of you will reach the
right decision about the best time for this important photographic
session.

If your wedding party is large, or you have large families, you may
want to appoint a photographic assistant. They should know everyone
in your family by sight and be able to assist the photographer by

to inform your photographer of any sensitive situations in your
respective families, such as recently deceased grandparents,
divorced parents, stepparents, etc.

The photography contract is a complex one. Be sure you understand
exactly the quantity and size of the prints you will be buying, when
proofs will be available, the type of proofs provided, when the
finished work will be ready, and how long the negatives will be
kept in the photographer’s filing system.

Once you’re satisfied that you have conveyed all your wishes to the
photographer, relax and let him/her fulfill those wishes. The result
will be an album that genuinely reflects the love and happiness you

The selecting of the tuxedos seems to be less

usually pick out all of the tuxedos together.
The groom is generally the only man in a
different tuxedo. The best man will have a
different accessory such as tie, vest, etc.
The hardest part will be getting the groomsmen,
best man, and dads in for sizing, and deposits
to order their tuxedos. Always be sure they try
on the entire tuxedo when picking it up, to be
sure everything fits and is included.
When choosing bridesmaids dresses, it is best to
only take one or maybe two people shopping with you.
If you want to go with more, just have fun and don’t
try to make any decisions until later. Otherwise,
you will be frustrated because you will have several
people saying I want this dress, not that one, which
will not be fun for you. Very rarely can several women
all agree on the same dress as being their favorite.
Keep in mind the sizes, shapes and ages of all your
bridesmaids when shopping.

Once you have selected your bridesmaids dresses, each
girl will need to come into the bridal shop to be
sized, and put down a deposit which is usually half
of the total.
The shop will not place the order until everyone has
been in, so the dresses will all come from the same
dye lot. Otherwise, your dresses may be different
shades. The maid/matron of honor can have a similar,
but different dress or bouquet for her to stand out.

Once the dresses come in, each bridesmaid will need
to schedule a fitting for her dress. Some alterations
are usually necessary, and are not included in the
cost of the dress The most common alterations are side
seams for a tight fit, and a hem. At the time of the
fitting, it is necessary to have the under garments
and shoes that will be worn at the wedding. You will
probably want your bridesmaids to all be wearing the
same shoes, so it is best to order them at the same
bridal shop, especially if you will be having them
dyed to match the dresses. You will want to think
about the jewelry they will be wearing. The perfect
solution may be to buy each bridesmaid matching
necklaces and earrings. This way everyone looks great,
and you have your attendants gifts taken
care of as well!

Types of Marriage Licenses in California

There are two types
of marriage licenses
commonly issued in
California.
The public marriage
license and the
confidential marriage
license. There are
requirements for each
of the licenses listed
below.

Public Marriage License:

You must be at least 18 years old. Persons under 18 with written
consent from at least one parent (or legal guardian) AND permission
from a California Superior Court Judge may marry. Emancipated minors
are NOT exempt from this process. Contact the County Clerk’s Office
in your county for further information regarding these requirements.

The marriage license may be obtained from any county in California.
You are not required to get married in the county where you purchase
the public marriage license; however, you must be married in California.
You must file the license in the county where it was purchased.

You must have at least one witness present at your ceremony. The license
contains a place for two witnesses if you prefer. You may NOT have more
than two witnesses sign the official marriage license. Licenses received
with more than two witnesses signatures will be returned to the officiant
and a duplicate marriage license will need to be purchased.

There is no age requirement in California for witnesses, however, they
must be old enough to know that they are witnessing a marriage ceremony,
AND be able to sign their name on the official marriage license.

The marriage license is registered at the County Recorder’s Office in
the county where the license was purchased, and is a public record. Anyone
may request copies of the marriage license by submitting the required fee
to the County Recorder. Only one officiant may sign the marriage certificate
as solemnized.

Confidential Marriage License:

The participating parties must be at least 18 years old to apply for a
confidential marriage license. Minors may NOT purchase a confidential
marriage license.

The participating parties must be living together as spouses at the time
they apply for the marriage license, and must sign an affidavit on the
license attesting to those facts.

The couple MUST be married in the county where the license is issued.

No witnesses are required to be at the ceremony, AND no witnesses sign
on the marriage license.

The marriage license is a confidential record and is registered at the
County Clerk’s Office in the county where it was purchased. Only the
couple may purchase copies of the marriage license and must present
valid picture identification together with the required fee to the
County Clerk in order to do so. Persons other than the married couple
requesting copies of a confidential marriage license may only do so by
presenting a court order to the County Clerk in the county where the
license is registered.

Copies of confidential marriages are not available from the state office.

Three Tips for Bridal Shows

Well, “tis the season” once again for local Bridal shows.

There is a Wedding Expo every weekend this month,
beginning with the Queen Mary Bridal show this Sunday.

Here are the three best tips we have
when attending any Bridal shows:

1- Bring labels with your name, mailing
address, e-mail address, phone number
(optional) and wedding date, to register
with the vendors at the show whose
services you are interested in.
This will save you a lot of time and
writing, and you will love your labels
by the end of the day!

2 - Bring someone with you that wants
to be there, and will make an effort
to enjoy the day with you. If your
fiance doesn’t want to come, or if your
Mom can’t come with you, maybe you would enjoy
going with one of your Bridesmaids. Bridal shows
can be a lot of fun when you can just relax and
have fun, so wear compfy shoes, and plan on doing
a lot of walking.

3 - Be sure to visit each booth. When you go down
the aisles, visit the vendors on one side, then come
back down the same aisle on the other side. When you
try to visit vendors on both sides, it gets confusing,
and you most likely will skip some booths that you may
be interested in. Sometimes a booth you want to visit
may be too crowded, so you can skip it, and this way
you when come come back through, you can stop at any
booths that you skipped the first time. Take your
time, and don’t rush through the show. Plan on being
there for at least a couple of hours. You can figure
about an hour to watch the fashion show which usually
has great prizes for Brides afterwards.

So again, just relax, have fun, and we will see you
at one of these upcoming Bridal shows!

Soon after you’ve set your date,
chosen the location, settled on
your colors and started searching
for your perfect dress, invitations,
etc., you’ll want to turn your
attention to the centerpiece of your
wedding day...
The Ceremony and The Person Who Will
Marry You.

Many couples rely on their own pastor,
minister, priest, rabbi or a justice
of the peace, to do the honors.

However, if you don't have one, or prefer a
non-denominational, inter-faith, spiritual, thematic,
semi-religious or non-religious ceremony -- written to
your specifications -- you'll need to hire a
Wedding Officiant to guide the process and legally
preside over your vows.

So where do you begin? With the end in mind!

Ideally, your ceremony (like every other aspect of your
wedding) is the outward expression of your personalities,
values, beliefs and traditions, all blended into a ritual
that is the ceremonial container
for the celebration of your love.

Start by asking each other about the ceremonies you remember
that really touched you. Reflect
together on what made them special and why you can still
recall them to this day. Discuss your
religious, ethnic, cultural and/or family wedding traditions.
Brainstorm. Take a big sheet of paper
and write it all down. Decide if there will be a theme or
main message and about how long your
ceremony will be. List the key words / phrases you always
imagined you’d say to each other at your wedding, or have
spoken on your behalf. Gather up your favorite poems, stories,
quotes and songs. Consider asking a family member or special
friend to do a reading or perform music. And before long,
a style will emerge from all these elements that will be the
unique representation of who you two are --
in life and in love.

Next, ask each other about the qualities you want in your
wedding officiant, and add them to your list. Ultimately,
their personality, temperament and presentation style should
match the vision you have in
mind, because they'll be representing you through their words
and presence, setting the tone for your marriage, and the mood
of your wedding.

Some wedding officiants will have a more serious or formal
demeanor. Others will be casual or even add their own special
brand of humor to the officiating process. Most recognize their
assignment as a sacred trust. It’s up to you to know what you
are looking for so you’ll recognize them when you find them...
on the internet, by referral from your wedding planner or other
vendor, from family or friends.

Remember this: Your wedding officiant works for you, not the
other way around!

So take your time. Interview prospective officiants either in
person or over the phone. Ask them to
describe their ceremonies, how they work with couples, and what
their services entail. Share your
ideas and find out how willing they are to incorporate them.
Explore why they are an officiant, their professional writing &
public speaking experience, and views on love and marriage.
Look at photographs and testimonials. Ask yourselves, above all,
if you feel comfortable with this person. You should feel
a strong sense of rapport, confidence, trust, and that you just click.

Because, then, after all the meetings, phone calls and emails,
when the big day finally arrives and you’re standing there together,
you’ll feel like you’ve known each other for a long time, and that
they really care about you and your marriage.

In Selecting The Right Wedding Officiant, be sure to allocate a

wait, they may accept other jobs for that day, and

Dance at Your Wedding

As a guy, there
was one thing I
was hoping my
fiance at the

Wedding veils have always symbolized
modesty, privacy, youth and maiden hood.
That way of thinking still has a foothold;
bridal etiquette authorities today advise
second-time brides to skip the veil and wear
a hat instead.

Most are familiar with the poem about bridal attire:
“Something old, something new, something borrowed,
something blue and a lucky sixpence in your shoe.”
What’s not generally known is that if a bride borrows
an item from a happily married woman, the giver’s
happiness is said to be passed on to the bride.
Something blue symbolizes constancy in a relationship.
The bridal garter originates from at least two cultures.
In ancient times, it represented the virginal girdle; the
groom’s removal of the garter symbolized her
relinquishment of that status. The garter can also be
traced to the Old English custom of flinging the stocking.
Wedding guests would sneak into the bridal chamber, pick
up the newlywed’s discarded stockings and throw
them at the couple. Whoever flung a stocking that hung on
the bride or groom’s nose would be the next
to marry.

Wedding bands, symbolizing eternal love by their lack of a
beginning or end, grew out of an ancient tribal
custom of using circlets of grass to decorate a bride’s wrists
and ankles. The Romans and Egyptians, with their love of
precious metals and stones, initiated the practice of using
silver and gold. Rings are worn yet today on the third finger
of the left hand because ancient cultures believed that finger
had a vein running straight to the heart. The “throwing of the

Diamonds in Your Wedding Rings

How are Diamonds formed?

Diamond is carbon
in its most concentrated
form, and is made up by
pure carbon atoms.
These carbon atoms are
imbedded deep in the ground
in the Earth’s mantle, below
the Earth’s crust.
When introduced to extreme
heat and immense pressure,
diamonds are formed. Diamonds
come to the Earth's surface in
molten rock, or magma, that begins deep
in the earth’s layers. Pushing diamonds
and other pieces of the Earth's mantle,
is this magma. With all the pressure and
heat, the earth’s inner matter erupts with
small, but strong explosive volcanoes. When
these volcanoes irrupt, the earth is left with
a carrot-shaped "pipe" that contains volcanic rock,
mantle fragments, and embedded diamonds. The rock
is called kimberlite named for the city of Kimberley
in South Africa. Kimberley was the first place these
pipes were discovered in the 1870s. A second example
of rock that carries diamonds is lamproite. You could
say that these pipes and their matter are elevators
for diamonds. These massive elevators allow what
scientist call "deposits", to surface. Geologist, refer
to these as "primary" and "secondary" sources. Primary
sources are kimberlite and lamproite that have risen
from the Earth’s mantle. Secondary sources are created
by erosion, which leads to scattering around the pipe,
which can be washed away into rivers or channels.
Due to the movement by these rivers and channels, large
secondary deposits can be found in the ocean or on our
ocean’s beaches, like that along the South African coast.

What Is the History Behind Diamonds?

In modern times the diamond represents prosperity,
stability, class, and superior quality. Throughout history,
many cultures believed diamonds were majestic. Diamonds were
associated with power, strength, enchantment, defense, and
resilience. This is a true testament of the diamond’s prosperity
through time.

As we all know, diamonds have been used in jewelry for many,
many years. Diamonds can be dated back to 1st century.
In the 2nd century a Roman poet made note that wedding rings
are known because of interior inscriptions recording the marriage
contracts signed in the presence of the Emperor's image. This custom
continued and the diamond became a religious item by the 4th century,
when a diamond ring was given as a token of love and marriage.
This has been a long lasting tradition.

Diamonds can be dated back as far as the 4th century in India.
India is the first known place diamonds were mined, which made
for great power in ancient times.

Choosing Your Wedding Veil and Headpiece

Your dress,
headpiece and
veil should
all glorify you
and frame you on
your wedding day.

Choose a headpiece
which contains the
same elements as your
dress – sequins, pearls,
beads, flowers, etc.
The headpiece must have the
same kind of sparkle as your
dress. It must “balance”
with your wedding dress.

Your wedding dress is dramatically
designed and possibly heavily beaded.
It will draw your viewer’s attention.
Your veil and headpiece will raise the
focal point from your dress to your face.

Check for beading on the dress – are there
pearls or beads, ... is there a silver or
gold accent in the beads, ... what about
rhinestones, ... are there sequins, ... are
those sequins clear or iridescent? Is there
a definite type of flower on the dress?

The most beading and applique work on your
Wedding dress will be concentrated on the bodice,
across the neckline and over the shoulders of
your dress. The sparkle (from pearls, beads, or
sequins) in your headpiece and the color contrast
between the veiling and your hair, will draw
attention up to your face, and balance your dress.

Your headpiece must contain the same elements as
your dress to raise the viewer’s focal point from
your dress up to your face. It does not have to
be ornate, just contain the same elements.
Beads in your headpiece will bring out the beading
on your dress. Satin ribbon edging and the absence
of beads in your headpiece will accent the fabric of
your dress. A few discreetly placed iridescent
sequins can add a “spark” to your headpiece.

Be sure to verify the color of your dress to match
the veiling. The white satin dresses usually match
the white bridal illusion; however, the white silk
fabrics are not that same bright white color.
For these dresses you need the Diamond White,
Silk White, or Eggshell bridal illusion.
Fabric swatches are necessary to match the color.

All these details will help to create the veil and
headpiece of your dreams!

Here are some tips for
making it a memorable and
pleasant experience to look
back on.

• Go to a store where you feel comfortable.
If you don't feel like you are being treated well,
or are unhappy with the selection, go elsewhere.
Don't try on any dresses if you wouldn't buy one
there.
This is your time to feel like a Queen!

• Don't go shopping if you aren't feeling well.
If you are bloated,
sunburned, or in any way feel ugly or uncomfortable,
you won't feel as beautiful as you should.

• Take someone with you, but not a small army, and
never any children. They get bored instantly, and will
make you crazy, since they really shouldn't touch
anything in the store.

• Minimize or don’t wear any make-up, it will get on the
gowns you try on. Also, remove jewelry since the satins
and silks used for Bridal dresses are very delicate, and
will snag or damage easily. Once you purchase your
gown, remember these things for fittings as well.

• Bridal Gown sizes run small. Don't think about the size,
but the fit. Order the size you are now, don't expect to
lose a lot of weight. If you do lose weight, you can always
have the gown taken in.

• Expect to have alterations done. Your dress should fit
perfectly and very few women are a perfect size, and
5'9" tall. Buying separates can minimizes this problem.
Remember, you can’t have alterations done until you
have the shoes, slip (if you are wearing a full skirt)
and bra you will be wearing with your dress.

• Try on different styles. Be open to possibilities.
You may discover that the perfect gown is different from
what you had imagined.

• Try to be realistic. You may have been dreaming of your
gown since you were a little girl. Your dress should be
fantastic and make you feel beautiful, but don't have
unrealistic expectations.

• Start early! Most gowns take several weeks to arrive,
and some manufacturers can take months. Also consider buying
a gown off-the-rack. These are usually discounted and can be
cleaned and altered to fit.

• When figuring your dress in your budget, don't forget
accessories and alterations.

• Buy your gown first, then match it when purchasing your
headpiece, or veil and accessories.

• Accentuate your best features and camoflauge flaws.
Choose a dress that you are comfortable in, because you will
be wearing it for a several hours. Keep that in mind with your
shoes too - break them in beforehand.
It is hard to have fun when your feet hurt!

• You don't have to buy the first dress you find that you like.
Visit several shops and be sure before you place your order
since your deposit is non-refundable.
Most Bridal shops will require half down as a deposit.

• Have fun trying on several dresses before making your choice,
but don't look forever. You can’t move on to other decisions
such as bridemaids’ and flowergirl dresses until you select
your gown. Besides, if you look too long, you will start to get
confused by too many choices.

• Your gown sets the mood for your wedding, whether it will
be formal, semi formal, traditional, etc. Your gown should reflect
the style and formality you intend to have for your wedding.

• Once you are sure you have found the perfect gown, buy it!
Bargain hunting is usually frustrating and futile.
Avoid buying from the internet, since you can't see what you are
getting, and have no retail location where you can try the dress on
or come back to with any problems.

But mostly, HAVE FUN SHOPPING!!

The Irish custom of the Groom presenting
his Bride with a coin is said to date back
to the time when the Groom paid luck money
to the family of the Bride, in order to bring
happiness and blessings upon them. After the
exchange of wedding rings, the coin would be
presented to the Bride as a symbol of worldly
goods. There is a contemporary custom where
the Bride and Groom exchange coins, and it is
said that, if the coins clink as they are
exchanged, the couple will be blessed with
children.
After the wedding, the gift is often preserved
as a family heirloom, and is passed from mother
to eldest son on his wedding day.

anticipation and
they want to look
and feel their very best.
The planning that goes
into a wedding may start
months, even years ahead
of the big day.

One of the situations I have encountered
over the years is many brides wait until
the last few weeks to get their skin glowing!
With the stress of the wedding getting closer
and the mountains of last minute “to dos”
skincare is planned for maybe a week or less
before, with a great facial.

My mantra has always been it is your daily
routine that will make all the difference,
so the earlier you start to take care of
your skin the better your chance of having
beautiful skin not just on your wedding day
but every day. Not that a nice facial about
7 to 10 days before the big day isn’t a good
idea, but notice the timing.
You want to ensure that any possible eruptions
will be healed up before the rehearsal dinner
and of course that special day that has been
planned for so long.

When it comes to the correct skincare you want
to use a product that is going to work for your
particular skin type and issues. Something we
all need to get passionate about is using safe
skincare and cosmetics. After all, our skin is
our largest organ and what we put on it quickly
makes its way into our bloodstream. The standards
here in the US for beauty products are much lower
than in most European countries in terms of harmful
ingredients and chemicals. If fact some well known
skincare companies will use different, more toxin
free, ingredients in Europe and give us much cheaper
formulations here in the US! Look for products without
fragrance, parabens, mineral or petro oils.

Now is the time to start educating yourself about what
you may be putting on your skin!

Your Wedding Invitations

The traditional wedding
invitation has changed
little over the years. Its
essential purpose is to
invite your guests and to
tell them where and when your wedding
is being held. Most other information is
superfluous. It’s that simplicity, coupled with
fine paper and distinctive engraving, that makes
formal wedding invitations so elegant. There are
a number of basic points of etiquette to follow
when wording a traditional wedding invitation.
For instance, the Groom's name.

The groom always uses his full name, preceded
by his title. There are no abbreviations, except for
"Mr." All other titles, such as "Doctor" and
“Reverend" should be written out, although "Doctor"
may be abbreviated when used with a long name.

Initials should not appear on formal wedding invitations.
Men who dislike their middle names and use their middle
initial instead should be discouraged from doing so.
If your fiancé refuses to use his middle name, it’s better to
omit his middle name entirely than to use just his initial.

Assembling the Invitations

Your wedding invitations may arrive already stuffed into
their inner envelopes or in separate stacks of invitations,
enclosure cards, and inner and outer envelopes. If yours
come unassembled, there’s no need to panic. Assembling
wedding invitations is really quite simple, although a bit
time-consuming.

For the most part, wedding invitations are assembled in
size order. The invitation itself is first. The enclosure cards
are stacked on top of the invitations, not inside. The reception
card is placed on top of the invitation. Then the reply envelope
is placed face down on the reception card. The reply card is
slipped face up beneath the flap of the reply envelope. These
are the most frequently used enclosures.

Any other enclosures are added face up in size order
(usually at-home card, directions card, accommodation card,
pew card, etc.). The single-fold invitation and its enclosures
are placed into the inside envelope with the fold of the
invitation at the bottom of the envelope and the engraving facing
the back of the envelope. You can tell whether or not you stuffed
the envelope correctly by removing the invitation with your right
hand. If you can read the invitation without turning it,
it was stuffed correctly.

The procedure for assembling traditional invitations (those
with a second fold) is similar. The enclosures are placed on
top of the lower half of the invitation's face in the same order
described above. The invitation is folded from top to bottom
over the enclosures. The invitation is then placed into the
inside envelope with the fold toward the bottom of the envelope.
As with other invitations, traditional invitations are correctly
stuffed when they can be read without being turned after being
removed from the envelope with your right hand.

Once stuffed, the inside envelopes are inserted into the
outside envelopes. The front of the inside envelope faces
the back of the outside envelope.

Soon after you’ve set your date,
chosen the location, settled on
your colors and started searching
for your perfect dress, invitations,
etc., you’ll want to turn your attention
to the centerpiece of your wedding day...
The Ceremony and The Person Who Will Marry You.

Many couples rely on their own pastor, minister,
priest, rabbi or a justice of the peace, to do
the honors.

However, if you don't have one, or prefer a
non-denominational, inter-faith, spiritual, thematic,
semi-religious or non-religious ceremony -- written
to your specifications -- you'll need to hire a
Wedding Officiant to guide the process and legally
preside over your vows.

So where do you begin? With the end in mind!

Ideally, your ceremony (like every other aspect of
your wedding) is the outward expression of your
personalities, values, beliefs and traditions,
all blended into a ritual that is the ceremonial
container for the celebration of your love.

Start by asking each other about the ceremonies you
remember that really touched you. Reflect together
on what made them special and why you can still recall
them to this day. Discuss your religious, ethnic,
cultural and/or family wedding traditions. Brainstorm.
Take a big sheet of paper and write it all down.
Decide if there will be a theme or main message and about
how long your ceremony will be. List the key words / phrases
you always imagined you’d say to each other at your wedding,
or have spoken on your behalf. Gather up your favorite poems,
stories, quotes and songs. Consider asking a family member
or special friend to do a reading or perform music.
And before long, a style will emerge from all these elements
that will be the unique representation of who you two are --
in life and in love.

Next, ask each other about the qualities you want in your
wedding officiant, and add them to your list. Ultimately,
their personality, temperament and presentation style should
match the vision you have in mind, because they'll be
representing you through their words and presence, setting
the tone for your marriage, and the mood of your wedding.

Some wedding officiants will have a more serious or formal
demeanor. Others will be casual or even add their own special
brand of humor to the officiating process. Most recognize their
assignment as a sacred trust. It’s up to you to know what you
are looking for so you’ll recognize them when you find them...
on the internet, by referral from your wedding planner or other
vendor, from family or friends.

Remember this: Your wedding officiant works for you, not the
other way around!

So take your time. Interview prospective officiants either in
person or over the phone. Ask them to describe their ceremonies,
how they work with couples, and what their services entail.
Share your ideas and find out how willing they are to incorporate
them. Explore why they are an officiant, their professional writing
& public speaking experience, and views on love and marriage.
Look at photographs and testimonials. Ask yourselves, above all,
if you feel comfortable with this person. You should feel a strong
sense of rapport, confidence, trust, and that you just click.

Because, then, after all the meetings, phone calls and emails,
when the big day finally arrives and you’re standing there together,
you’ll feel like you’ve known each other for a long time, and that
they really care about you and your marriage.

In Selecting The Right Wedding Officiant, be sure to allocate a
reasonable amount of money in your budget ($350-550 for a custom
ceremony; additional for the rehearsal, travel time and license
coordination). The most talented ones will be booked several months
in advance, so be sure to start your search early!

And when you find that perfect person, lock them in right away, so you
can relax and enjoy a leisurely planning process in their capable hands.

Bridal Shows 2011

Happy New Year!

Congratulations to
all engaged Brides!

As a Bride, you should
take advantage of all the
many wonderful Bridal shows,
and attend at least a couple
of them, with your husband-to-be,
Mom, or some of your Bridal party.

The shows can be a lot of fun as well
as informative. You can talk to a
variety of different Wedding services,
get some new ideas, and have some of your
questions answered all in one day, at one
location, within just a few hours.

However, not all Bridal shows are created equal!

It is a good idea to contact the facility
in which the show is being held, or the
producers, prior to the show, to get a list
of the vendors participating in the show.
The exhibitors should be listed on the show
producers website, along with directions,
fashion show times and other information to
help you plan the day before arriving.
You want to be sure that there will be vendors
there that you are interested in meeting.

There is usually a charge to attend a Bridal
show, but if you pre-register for a Bridal
show, most times you will receive a discount
on the entry fee, and sometimes pre-printed
mailing labels for you to use at the show.

When you attend a Bridal show, to make your
life much easier, and for a more enjoyable
experience, always remember to
BRING MAILING LABELS, with your name and
mailing address on them.

Another good idea, is to create an e-mail
address specifically for Wedding information.
This will help keep you organized, and have all
the information for your Wedding services in
one place, separate from other e-mails.

If you have time you can make labels,
including your name, mailing address,
e-mail address, wedding date and grooms name.
Almost every booth will have something to fill
out with your information for some type of
give-away, or to contact after the show.

I only know of one Bridal show producer who
gives these labels to Brides if you register
in advance, and it is such a great idea.
It really makes registering for give-aways so
much easier for both the Brides filling out
the cards, and the vendors trying to read
their writing!

You want to be able to view a few different
photographers Bridal books, watch videos of
other Weddings ceremonies and receptions,
taste samples of cake, see DJ’s in action,
get ideas for your flowers, and see a lot
of products and services that you hadn’t
even thought of!

A lot of vendors offer discounts, or free
merchandise when you book them from a Bridal
show. There is usually a fashion show to enjoy.
Although you might not find your gown or
bridesmaids dresses from the show, it’s fun to
watch and get ideas of what styles you may want
to consider. Prizes are almost always given out
before and after the fashion show, and usually you
need to be present to win. Sometimes these are
some really great prizes given out by the vendors
participating in the show.

You should mark the business cards of the people
you want to contact later for a consultation.
Even though you think you will remember them,
sometimes it’s hard to remember everyone that
you talked to after the show.

Your body is
meant to be
in a state of
balance,
Yin and Yang,
activity and
rest, being
and doing.
Your body is
constantly
giving you
feedback about
the necessity of stopping
(Via feelings of fatigue, stress, etc,).
If you do not pay attention to your body’s
messages, you may just get a cold. People
that have truly learned that art of not
paying attention to their body may develop
more severe physical or emotional problems.
(In addition to not feeling well, there are
time costs to not being in optimum physical
health-i.e.-doctors visits, needing more rest
and sleep than normal, etc.) There is a reason
people feel so good after a Yoga class or
meditating or a walk in nature.
They are giving the body what it needs.
The body needs you to stop.

What is so great about stopping is that
when you go again you are more efficient,
productive and creative. As a matter of
fact, one of the biggest ways people
LOSE TIME is to be constantly busy.
There are many cycles and rhythms in life
and the more we attune to our own energy rhythms,
the more we will allow ourselves to stop. How many
people do you know that are happy being constantly busy?
Yes, there is a temporarily relief to get one more thing
done on your list. However, develop the trust and faith
that if you slow down you will give yourself MORE TIME.

Stopping is a way to receive from life. Take in life;
take in your partner. Savor your food; do not eat to fast.
Enjoy your children. Remember the real reasons why you do
the things you do. It is probably to enjoy your life more.

So stop, take a nice deep breath in, exhale all the way out
and slow down. See how much your life improves.

Getting Married
should be about
the Marriage and
not just about
the Wedding.

So many Brides
get caught up
in planning a
perfect Wedding,
they don’t think
about the “Ever After”.

I am a firm believer in
Marriage and “Happily Ever After”.

That doesn’t mean that everything in
your life after your Wedding will always
be perfect, but if your expectations aren’t
unrealistic you can have a very happy life
together.

When you go through the good times, it is so
wonderful to have someone to share and enjoy
those times with, and when times are tough,
you have someone by your side to help you,
and you can work through them together.

The secret is, not having any secrets from
each other.

That doesn’t mean that you need to report to
each other on every little detail of your life,
but that you always share your feelings and
opinions with each other.

You can agree to disagree, but at least you are talking.

Pick your battles carefully, everything is not worth
fighting about.

Starting with the day you say “I Do” to each other,
work together as a unit and you can accomplish so
much more in life.

Don’t try to change each other, just accept each others
faults and focus on your strengths.

Work to bring out the best in your partner, and allow
them to bring out the best in you as well.

Always make time for each other, and remember why you
fell in love, and you should stay in love for the rest
of your lives!

Laws Concerning Marriage

A man and
woman must
follow certain
laws when they
marry.
The United States
and Canada have
basically the same
marriage laws.
Neither nation has
federal marriage
laws, but each
state and province
has its own
regulations.

In all except four states,
both the man and woman must
be at least 18 years old to
marry without parental consent.
Nebraska and Wyoming require
a couple to be at least 19.
Mississippi and Rhode Island
have a minimum age of 21.
Most states allow people to marry
as young as 16 with parental consent.
In some states, a person under age
16 needs a judge's permission to marry.

According to law, both the man and
woman must freely consent to marry.
If a person is forced or tricked into
marrying against his or her will, a
judge will annul (cancel) the marriage.

State laws prohibit close relatives from
marrying each other. Laws also forbid
a person to marry if he or she is married
to someone else. A person who marries
a second time while a first marriage is still
in effect commits the crime of bigamy.

Some states permit a couple to marry even
if the bride or groom cannot be present at
the wedding ceremony. However, another
person must serve as a proxy (substitute)
for the absent bride or groom.
This type of marriage is called marriage by proxy.

How much fun would that be?

If an unmarried couple live together as
husband and wife, a court may declare
them married after a certain period of time.
The time period varies among the states
that permit such common-law marriages.
It is usually several years. A couple do
not have to have a license or wedding
ceremony for a common-law marriage.

Again I ask, how fun is that, without any celebration!

Freeze-Dried Wedding Bouquets

Freeze-drying is
a process for
flower preservation
that retains the
color and texture
of products.
Unlike air drying,
the product's shape
is maintained by
virtue of it being
frozen.
While frozen, the moisture
is removed by way of vacuum,
leaving all other substances
in the flower, such as pigment
and structural parts immobilized.

The result is a beautiful, natural
looking product that lasts many years
with proper care. To preserve the
luster and life of the product,
pre- and post-treatments are applied.
The process requires a machine containing
two refrigeration units and a vacuum system.

As soon as we receive your flowers, we apply
a pre-treatment and use infra-red heat to
evaporate excess moisture. Next, the flowers
need to be frozen within fifteen minutes to
prevent the petals from turning brown.
After twelve hours the drying process starts,
which takes up to fourteen days of carefully
regulating the freeze-dry machine. When the
product is dried, the post-treatment must be
applied within twelve hours. If necessary, we
enhance the colors of the flowers, and your
Wedding bouquet is ready for framing.

Summer to October Weddings

a busy time
of year.

The transition
from summer to
school and the
Holidays is always
difficult, especially
when you have students
getting back into
their weekly schedule.
It seems that everything
hits all at once.

You go from relaxing on a lazy summer day,
to the beginning of school when there seems
to be 4 activities scheduled for each day!

Because of our cold weather this summer,
we feel robbed of our usual sunny Southern California
summer season.

For Brides, the cooler weather was sometimes a welcome
relief from the sizzling heat, other times made for a
chilly outdoor ceremony at the beach.
When we did finally get the hot weather, it was so extreme,
we were all miserable.

Questions to ponder...

When was the last time we had 113 degree weather one week,
and had the temp. drop to 60 degrees in just a few days?

And, when was the last time we had so much rain in October?

Fortunately, this year October Weddings have had pretty good
weather on the weekends.

Did you know that October has as many Weddings now as June?

It’s not the “off season” anymore.

Wedding Customs

times.
For example,
Roman brides
probably wore
veils more
than 2,000 years ago.
Bridal veils became popular in the
United Kingdom and the New World during
the late 1700's.
The custom of giving a wedding ring dates
back to the ancient Romans. The roundness
of the ring probably represents eternity,
and the presentation of wedding rings symbolizes
that the man and woman are united forever.
Wearing the wedding ring on the ring finger of the
left hand is another old custom. People once thought
that a vein or nerve ran directly from this finger
to the heart. An old superstition says that a bride
can ensure good luck by wearing "something old,
something new, something borrowed, and something blue."
Another superstition is that it is bad luck for a bride
and groom to see each other before the ceremony on their
wedding day.

After many weddings, the guests throw rice at the
bride and groom as a wish for children and good fortune.
Rice was once a symbol of fertility, happiness, and long life.
The bride may toss her bouquet to the unmarried female guests.
The woman who catches the flowers will supposedly be the next
to marry. This custom probably started in France in the 1300's.
The bride may also throw her garter to the unmarried men.
The man who catches it will supposedly be the next male to marry.

Islamic law permits a man to have as many as four wives.
Some societies practice polyandry, the marriage of a
woman to more than one man.

In certain cultures, marriage involves a gift from the
family of the bride or groom to the other's family.
In many societies, for example, the bride's family gives
money or property to the groom or his family.
Such a gift is called a dowry. In some cases, the dowry
is given to the bride so that she and her husband may
benefit from it. In other cultures, the groom and his
family present gifts to the family of the bride.
This offering is called a bride price.

Some societies require a person to marry someone who belongs
to his or her own tribe or group. This custom is called endogamy.
In other places, an individual must follow the rules of exogamy
and marry a person from another tribe or village. The most common
rule of exogamy requires a man or woman to marry someone outside
his or her own family.

Each culture has its own rules about which family members a person
is forbidden to marry. However, most societies forbid incest, which
is marriage or sexual relations between certain close relatives.
In nearly all cultures, such relatives include a parent and child or
a brother and sister.

and when to marry.

Most couples decide to marry because
they love each other and want
to spend the rest of their
lives together.

A man and woman who marry usually hope
to share a special sexual relationship
and a permanent romantic attraction.
But each hopes the other will always
be a close friend as well. Each also
expects the other to help with many problems
and to share certain responsibilities.
These responsibilities include earning a living,
budgeting money, paying bills, preparing meals,
and taking care of a home.

In the United States, about 21/2 million couples
marry each year. However, many people choose
never to marry. Some people who remain single
may not find a mate with whom they want to share
their life. Others may not want the many
responsibilities required of a successful marriage.
Still others prefer to stay unmarried because they
enjoy their independence.

Most couples who marry plan to have children and to
raise them together. A husband and wife are required
by law to protect and care for their children.
Marriage thus serves as the basis of family life.

Weddings and Parties with the Pioneers

The pioneers
brightened
life on the
frontier
with parties
and other
get-togethers.
They mixed
work with
fun and sports
whenever possible.

In autumn, they held cornhusking
contests and nut-gathering parties.

In spring, they assembled in maple groves
to make sugar and syrup. The women often
got together for quilting parties.
The quilts were much in demand as bedcovers.

The settlers always enjoyed a house-raising.
The men stopped working on the house now and
then to run races or to hold wrestling bouts
or shooting contests. After the job was finished,
everyone celebrated with a lively feast.
The women prepared plenty of food, and after eating,
the settlers sat around telling stories. As a rule,
someone brought along a fiddle, and dancing and
singing went on until late in the night.

A wedding was a special time of fun and celebration.
The pioneers liked to play tricks on a couple about
to be married. Sometimes the women "kidnapped" the
bride while the men rode off with the groom.
Of course, both managed to escape in time to be married.
During the couple's wedding night, some guests, usually
young men and boys, gathered outside the newlyweds' home.
There, the assembled group shouted, banged on pans, and
otherwise created great noise in a tradition called a
charivari (pronounced shihv uh REE).

A wedding custom called charivari is widespread in various
European societies. On the wedding night, friends of the
bride and groom provide a noisy serenade by banging on pots
and pans outside the couple's bedroom. The desire to avoid
charivari led to the practice of leaving on a honeymoon
immediately after a wedding.

Attitudes About Marriage.

ideas about marriage.
For example, most
societies expect men
and women to marry.
In addition,

have traditions about
the role and the main
duties of a husband
and a wife.
Traditionally, the husband is expected

Many Americans disregard traditional marriage patterns.
For example, a large number of married couples share
responsibilities that have been traditionally handled by
either the husband or the wife. An increasing number of
married women have paying jobs and help support their
families financially. In 1940, about 15 percent of all
married women earned money.

In the early 1990's, about 60 percent held a full- or
part-time job. More and more husbands share responsibilities
traditionally handled by women, such as cooking, doing
housework, and caring for the children.

On the average, men and women stay single longer than they
once did. In 1950, men married at an average age of 23, and
women married at an average age of 20. By the mid-1990's,
the average marriage age was about 26 for men and about
age 24 for women.

Wedding Traditions

Many couples prefer a traditional
religious ceremony, though some
people depart from custom.
Some even write their own wedding
service.
A traditional marriage
ceremony begins with the bridesmaids
and ushers walking slowly down a
center aisle to the altar.
They stand on each side of the altar
throughout the ceremony. The groom
enters and waits for the bride at the altar. The bride then
walks down the aisle with her father, another male relative,
or a family friend. She wears a white dress and veil and carries
a bouquet. At the altar, the bride and groom exchange marriage
vows and accept each other as husband and wife. The groom puts a
wedding ring on the ring finger of the bride's left hand, and the
bride may also give the groom a ring. After the ceremony, the bride
and groom kiss and then leave down the main aisle.

People of many backgrounds follow the traditional wedding ceremony,
but certain religious groups add their own features to it. For example,
different Protestant groups have their own versions of the ceremony.
Many Roman Catholic weddings take place during a Mass, and the bride and
groom receive Holy Communion.

Most Jewish weddings are held under a special canopy that represents
the couple's future home. At the end of the ceremony, an empty glass
or other breakable object is placed on the floor and the groom breaks
it with his foot. This act symbolizes the destruction of the ancient
Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and reminds the couple that a marriage can
also break if it is not protected.

Mormon weddings are held privately in Mormon temples. Only church
members in good standing can attend these ceremonies. Mormons believe
that marriage and family life continue after death.

A Quaker man and woman marry at a public gathering where they

limo companies in California are
operating without a license or
valid insurance, pedaling fake
Rolls-Royces or offering entry
level Packards as “American Rolls Royces.”
It is fraud to suggest that they are the real thing.
The industry knows that most brides don’t inspect
their wedding vehicle before booking it, so be sure
you do and know what to look for. Don’t just look at
a photo either - many cars don’t look nearly as nice
in person. A vintage car should always be mechanically
safe and sound. Be sure the air conditioning works and
that the vehicle is clean and in good condition.
Select a company with a solid reputation; one that cares
about its vehicle collection, chauffeur service, and has
an “A” rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Being late is the number one complaint against limo companies.
Hire a company only if they have an “On Time Guarantee”.
Be sure they will provide you with the name and mobile number
of your driver in advance, including the exact time he’ll be
arriving to pick you up.

Finally, ask about an “all inclusive” price quote. Hidden or
phony fees can include sales tax, refueling charges, license fees,
or PUC fees. Be aware of how the company charges for overtime as well.
Avoid those that have overtime surcharge rates or round everything to
the nearest hour.

Remember, personal service and an elegant vehicle will be
the crowning touch to your wedding day.
Plan ahead and choose wisely for the perfect
vintage car service.

1. Plan to make a day of it and enjoy it! There are many exhibitors,
and you want to make sure that you have time to speak with anyone
you need to, so allow extra time to view the venue.

2. Wear comfortable shoes-you will be doing a lot of walking around
and standing when speaking to all the exhibitors.

3. Bring along a friend. It is always good to have someone to share
the experience with and to offer a second opinion. This is a great
opportunity to bond with your Mothers and Mother Inlaws- To-Be!
We offen have special events just for them.

4. Bring printed self-adhesive labels with the following information:
your name, address, phone, email, and wedding date if known.
This will save you time and allow you to sign up for drawings or
anything you want very quickly.

5. Bring a notebook to make notes. Ask lots of questions, and take
notes and any price quotes offered or new ideas. The best way to
find out whether or not a service is right for you is to have a
conversation with the exhibitors. Collect any information you are
interested in so you can review it once you get home.

6. Create a new email account. Register for a free e-mail address
that you can use when filling out forms. That way you have a separate
e-mail account just for Wedding information, so it’s easier to sort
through, and keep track of contacting the vendors you want to meet with.

one week before Easter?

This is a great time for a
spring Wedding!

March is still considered the
“off season” so as a Bride you
can take advantage of reduced
rates by having your Wedding
this month.

In Southern California we
don’t usually need to plan
around harsh weather.

This weekend is going to be warm and sunny,
perfect spring days. This is absolutely the
best weather for your Wedding.

In the summer months, it is very hot for you
as a Bride with your gown and veil. You want
to feel fresh on your Wedding day, and not hot,
sweaty and sticky. Not to mention all the men
in tuxedos. Keep this in mind, especially if
you are planning to have an outdoor Wedding.

If you are having an outdoor ceremony or reception,
you must always have a back-up plan in case of rain,
strong winds, or intense sunshine.
This means either a room at the site, or a rental
company who can tent your event. In your planning,
you want to think of the comfort of you and your
guests, as well as the food, cake and decorations.

Spring is Here

Today is Saturday,
the first day of
Spring.
And, what a wonderfully
warm and beautiful day
it is!

A day like today reminds me
of why we live in sunny,
Southern California.

You should be outside
enjoying the sunshine
instead of being inside
on your computer!

I am having issues with my computer.
So many that it needs to go in for
repair. That is never fun.
It's means a lot of extra work
to back up all your information,and
hope that you don't lose anything
important. And, going without your
computer is impossible.

I would say that is a good excuse to
sign off and go enjoy the rest of the
day! I suggest that you do the same,
and come back to your computer after
sunset. It will still be here, patiently
waiting for your return...

Ireland is also known as the Emerald Isle
because of its beautiful green countryside.
Rolling farmlands, which are mainly pasture,
cover much of the central part of the country,
and mountains rise near the coasts.

Large numbers of young people in Ireland once remained
single and lived with their parents until they were over the
age of 30. Farmland and jobs were scarce, and few young
people could afford to marry and raise families. However,
marriage practices have changed, and today young people
marry earlier than they did in the past.

The Roman Catholic Church has long played a major role in
Irish social life. Almost every Irish city has a Catholic cathedral,
and nearly all the towns and villages have a Catholic church.
Most people attend church regularly.

Many of the Irish enjoy visiting their neighborhood pub (public house).
People gather in the country's pubs to drink beer and whiskey, talk with
friends, and listen to music.

The favorite alcoholic drink in Ireland is beer. A type of beer called stout
is especially popular. The Irish use barley malt to make Irish whiskey,
a world-famous liquor. A drink called Irish coffee is made with coffee,
Irish whiskey, brown sugar, and cream.

One of Ireland's most famous dishes is Irish stew. This dish is made by
boiling layers of potatoes, onions, and pieces of mutton in a covered pot.
Another traditional Irish meal consists of boiled salt pork, cabbage, and
potatoes.

Many people consider the Irish to be exceptionally warm-hearted and friendly.
The Irish also have a reputation for hospitality, close family ties, and skill as
writers and storytellers.

It sounds like a wonderful place for a Wedding!

Hi!
Wow, is it the middle
of January already?!!

It’s time for me to get
back to doing my weekly blog.

With the Holidays, and working
on the 2010 issue, getting the
book ready to print, it has been
a very busy end of the year for us.

Now, January is an even busier month!

‘Tis the season for Bridal shows.

This is a great year for a Wedding!

Now is the time to do your planning.

We will be attending several Bridal shows every
weekend in January and February.

As a Bride, you should attend a couple of shows,
and enjoy being “a star for the day”.

Theme weddings have become
very popular over the last
decade.
In fact, 40% of couples will

around a favorite theme.

Wedding Season in Southern California

The end of October marks the
traditional end of the
“Wedding Season” for most
Wedding services.

Years ago, the
”Wedding Season”
was May through
September.
Now, April and October
have been added to the
list.
Surprisingly, June is no
longer the busiest month
for Weddings as it’s
been for years.
In recent years, August has
become the month with the most
Weddings, with October the second
busiest, and May, June, and September
next.
April and July have the fewest number
of Weddings during the season.

When planning your Wedding, there is one
simple way to save money, make booking
your Wedding services easier and may include
more extras at no charge.

Just like when you book a cruise, air fares, hotels
and resorts during their off season, the rates will
go down.
You may also receive better service when things
are not so hectic, and their staff isn’t stretched thin
with so many events on the same day.

Fridays and Sundays are also not as popular as
Saturdays, so may have the same benefits when
booked.
Any events held on a Monday through Thursday,
will have the best discounts.
This is something you may want to also think about
for a shower or Bachelorette party.

Wedding Professionals in Southern California

I have been attending a lot of
wedding events lately, and I
am absolutely amazed by all
of the wonderfully creative
ideas people have for making
your Wedding unique.
Brides have so many choices!
The quality of Wedding services
has definately improved greatly
over the last few years.
There are very few “fly-by-night”
companies these days offering
Wedding services, especially with
the state of our economy.

Remember, if the price sounds “too good to be true”
you should be wary. If someone is charging significantly
less than the average cost, there is a reason. The quality
of their service or the product you are buying, won’t be
as good. No one is willing to work for free.
The old saying “you get what you pay for” is true for
Wedding services too. But just because someone is
expensive, doesn’t necessarily mean that their work
is superior to others. Look for a price that is in the
range of being the average for that type of product
or service.
Be sure to compare apples-to-apples for a fair comparison.
Most importantly, aways get everything in writing on
your contract.
Most Wedding professionals are flexible and are willing
to work within your budget to create something wonderful
just for you!

There are so many creative, quality Wedding professionals
available, you just need to look for them!

Bridal Shows in Orange County

The larger Bridal shows can be a bit overwhelming for
newely engaged Brides.
Most of the time, the smaller Bridal shows are better for actually crossing things off your “To Do” list, because it is much easier to talk to the vendors when it’s not so busy.
You should mark the business cards of the people you want to contact later for a consultation.
Even though you think that you will remember who you
talked to and what they promised to do for you, sometimes
it’s hard to remember everything after you leave the show.

When you attend a Bridal show, to make your life easier,
and for a more enjoyable experience, always remember to
BRINGING MAILING LABELS, with your name and mailing address on them. If you have time you can make labels, which should include your name, mailing address, e-mail address, wedding date and grooms name.
Almost every booth will have something to fill out
with your information for some type of give-away.
I only know of one Bridal show producer who gives these labels
to Brides if you register in advance, and it is such a great idea.
It really makes registering for prizes so much easier for
both the Brides filling out the cards, and the vendors trying to
read their writing.

Bridal Shows

I would like to talk today about Bridal shows.

As a Bride, you should take advantage of Bridal shows, and attend
at least a couple of them, with your fiancee, Mom or some of your
Bridal party.

The shows can be a lot of fun as well as informative.
You can talk to a variety of different Wedding services, get some great
new ideas, and have some of your questions answered all in one day, at
one location, within just a few hours.

However, NOT ALL BRIDAL SHOWS ARE CREATED EQUAL!

It is a good idea to contact the facility in which the show is being held,
or the show producers prior to the show, to get a list of the vendors
participating in the show. The exibitors should be listed on the show
producers' website, along with directions, fashion show times and
other information to help you plan the day before arriving.
You want to be sure that the vendors participating in the show
are people that you are interested in meeting with, and services that
you still need for your upcoming Wedding.

There is usually a charge to attend a Bridal show, but if you
pre-register for a Bridal show, most times you will receive a
discount on the entry fee, and sometimes get pre-printed mailing
labels for you to use at the show.

You want to be able to view a few different photographers' Bridal
books, watch videos of other Weddings ceremonies and receptions,
taste samples of cake, see DJ’s in action, get ideas for your
flowers, and see a lot of products and services that you hadn’t
even thought of!

A lot of vendors offer discounts, or free merchandise when you book
them from a Bridal show. Take advantage of these savings, if you
want to book their services. Usually, a contract isn't signed until
you meet again for a consultation at a later date after the show.
There is usually a fashion show to enjoy. Although you might not
find your gown or bridesmaids dresses from the show, it’s fun to watch
and get ideas of what styles you may want to consider.
Prizes are almost always given out before and after the fashion show,
and usually you need to be present to win. Sometimes these are some
really great prizes given out by the vendors who are participating in
the show, so it is worth staying for.

Here are some basic common sense ideas to ensure that your
Wedding day goes well and is enjoyed to the fullest by you
and all of your guests.

Hire professionals who specialize in Weddings and let
them help you. Part of the fee you are paying them, is
for their advise and ideas, so consider what they suggest.
They have been involved in more Weddings then you have,
so take advantage of their experience.

Only hire someone that you like and trust. Go with your feelings
after meeting with them. Be sure that you are meeting with
the professional who will be working at your Wedding. If you
meet with a company that will be taking care of sending someone
else to work at your Wedding, be sure that you meet with that
person prior to the day, just to confirm with them what you expect
from them, and to be sure they are a good match for you.

DO NOT ask friends or family to work at your Wedding, taking care
of shooting photos, video, being your DJ, or coordinator.

It is not a good idea to hire friends for several reasons, but most
importantly of all, is that they will need to work instead of being
able to enjoy your Wedding as your guest.
If they don’t work hard, and instead just relax and enjoy the day,
(which is probably what you want them to do anyway) you will be very
disappointed with the quality of their services at the end of your
special day. Many friendships are lost after bad feelings about
a day which should be your happiest ever, and you can't do it again.

Wedding professionals make it look easy, but they are working very
hard to make the day run smoothly and for you and your guests, and
for you to have many priceless memories and keepsakes afterwards.

Weddings are fun! At least they should be...

The best advise I have heard from a Bride planning her Wedding was that as a Bride, all of your close friends and family are getting together at your Wedding, to enjoy your celebration of love, so just relax and enjoy your special day without worring about perfection.
Something will always go wrong even if it is the weather which you have no control over,
but it doesn’t matter.
The focus is on you as a couple and everyone will have a good time and share their love regardless of what goes wrong with the details. These mishaps, are great stories to share with family for many years and hopefully ones to tell your grandchildren!

Getting Marrried should be about the Marriage and not about the Wedding.

So many Brides get caught up in planning a perfect Wedding, they don’t think about
the “Ever After” .

I am a firm believer in Marriage and “Happily Ever After”.
That doesn’t mean that everything in your life after your Wedding will always be perfect,
but if your expectations aren’t unrealistic you can have a very happy life together.
When you go through the good times, it is so wonderful to have someone to share and enjoy those times with, and when times are tough, you have someone by your side to help you, and you can work through them together.
The secret is, not having any secrets from each other.
That doesn’t mean that you need to report to each other on every little detail of your life, but that you always share your feelings and opinions with each other.
You can agree to disagree, but at least you are talking.
Don’t try to change each other, just accept each others faults and focus on your strengths.
Work to bring out the best in your partner, and allow them to bring out the best in you
as well.
